Hygiene

Train hard. Stay clean. Be a good partner.
Jiu-jitsu is a close-contact martial art, and good hygiene is one of the easiest ways to show respect for your teammates—and yourself.
The basics:
  • Wash your gi, belt, and rashguard after every session. No exceptions.
  • Keep your fingernails and toenails short and clean.
  • Shower after training if possible. If not, body wipes or antibacterial soap alternatives can help until you get home.
  • Cover any cuts or scrapes with a bandage and tape before stepping on the mat.
  • If you notice anything on your skin—red patches, irritation, bumps—sit out and get it checked. It’s better to miss a day than spread something like ringworm or staph.
Nobody’s perfect, but consistency here keeps everyone healthier and mats safer.
